IN THE BEGINNING

We Were Not Ranchers…

OUR STORY

But we jumped in with passion.

When the opportunity to farm our family’s ranch came about, we (some might say naively) took up the challenge. Growing up riding and working cattle on the ranch had awakened in me a persistent, itching nostalgia for old-world cattle ranching that did not wane as I grew older, married Ned, had children and became an interior designer in San Francisco.

The steep learning curve associated with ranching has proven to me and Ned, a Silicon Valley man, to be an ever-deepening mystery. Who thought you might buy a livestock guard dog only to discover his propensity to chew on sheep’s ears? Or that Longhorn cattle, whose horns are wonderfully decorative, are really quite intimidating when you attempt to move them from field to field? The humbling reality of starting a ranching operation has not thwarted our ambition to bring new life to old ranching traditions, but rather, an unfamiliar and welcome challenge.

OUR CREW

Emily Taylor

OWNER

Emily started engaging with aesthetics as an interior designer in the Bay Area. As an avid and passionate cook, she wanted to create a sustainable, beautiful, and practical farming operation on her family’s historic ranch. She is deeply gratified at the opportunity to cook for guests, using produce and meat from ancestral land.

Ned Taylor

OWNER

Ned brings his experience as business developer at tech startups to help build the ranch business. A native of Massachusetts and a lover of nautical adventures, Ned is steadily adapting to the terrestrial existence here at PT Ranch. When Ned’s not driving the supply line, he serenades the cows with his guitar. We are all grateful he finally has an eager audience.

Molly Taylor

RANCH MANAGER & SALES

Molly earned her BA in Urban Studies at NYU before returning to PT Ranch to help build the family business. Today, she helps scale climate-smart agriculture through technical assistance and finance. She remains an avid enthusiast of implementing healthy soils projects at the ranch.
